DUM LAGA KE HAISHA

Prem and his oversized wife Sandhya are supposed to spend a lifetime together. Will a regular arranged marriage turn out to be a perfect mismatch?

Simple, but satisfying.

This movie might look like it touches a sensitive subject, but surprisingly it did not, even for me. Movies like these are the ones you would want to watch on a lazy weekend, for no reason whatsoever. Maybe to feel that appearance is truly not that important when it comes to falling in love.

Ayushmann once again scores with a terrific morale in a film. A small town bachelor with family issues, who can possibly not want to watch that kind of role? I also want to give a standing ovation to Bhumi who for the sake of this film gained weight to feel the character through and through. We all love a dedicated actress.

One thing that might prevent a big number of us from wanting to love someone and be loved in return is our appearance, our biggest insecurity. No one can truly stand up and say that they are perfect, especially if we are talking about how we look (if you can, you are legendary). But I could never do that. Being embarrassed about how we look is completely normal apparently, because everyone has flaws in them, even if we do not see them. We just need to be a little more confident in our own skin, as hard as that can get. Ironic, coming from me, but it is the truth. One day, we will find it in ourselves to accept that this is what we have and we will learn to be grateful and happy with it. Unless, of course we look for artificial ways to change ourselves. However, even that cannot guarantee satisfaction. Because the first person we have to get affirmation from is ourselves.

This movie depicts how harsh it can be for a plus sized girl to be looked at with love. Some might disagree, saying that it is how you are on the inside, however I agree to disagree with this one. First appearances are for life. The way you look can highly affect how people look at you. I have never seen plus sized girls being treated well all their lives in this cruel world. I relate to that on a whole different level. It is just the way of the world. Beauty might be temporary, but it is given much higher regard than character. It is a harder journey for plus sized people, male and female, to get anything may it be a job interview, a little respect or even a taste of love. We are trapped in these bodies that we are dissatisfied with, and it imprisons us to a point that we break down and lose hope, but can never escape it. That motivates some to work on their physique, for plus sized folk. Which is a great thing, because you break free of the shackles that bounded you. But if you do not, learn to understand what you truly desire in your existence and cultivate self-love. Because in order to work on your flaws, you first have to wholeheartedly accept them.

Despite all the punches I got from this film, I actually really love the literal concept of both husband and wife carrying their relationship to a better state. It was, refreshing.

All in all, I think we all have a long way to go in terms of self-acceptance, but I hope we reach the end of that tunnel soon. If not, how can we aspire to live happily ever after?
