TAARE ZAMEEN PAR
Ishaan, a student who has dyslexia, cannot seem to get anything right at his boarding school. Soon, a new unconventional art teacher, Ram Shankar Nikumbh, helps him discover his hidden potential.
If you are a child, a student, a parent, a sibling or a teacher you will relate to this.
Basically all of us.
This film made me cry every 5 minutes. Probably because of how many parts I related to. Let me break it down to you, but first the cast. Aamir Khan, being the one also to produce this film was, emotionally perfect. Whenever he came on screen, it was like being dragged back into the story. Same goes to the lead character, Ishaan Awasthi, played by Darsheel Safary. He was riveting to watch. I teared up at every scene of him, really. It was like I was a punching bag attacked continuously by Aamir and Darsheel, and did not mind it one bit.
The plotline was very well organized in my opinion. So many variations of this story can conjure in my head when I think of a dyslexic boy who learns his way in the world, but this one was written and acted out in the order that has got to be my favorite, because of how many other issues were fitted into this plotline, not only the struggles of the boy.
Now, the important bits I want to bring to light. Firstly, as a child. We are all children, fortunate to be loved by our parents. As a child, we have one point of view, unable to rational the points of others. Not knowing why things happen a certain way. All we have are our parents, our guiders, our protectors. What would we do without them? Where would we go? But, we do not know they consequences of actions, so do not think much. When our parents do, we question their choices, sometimes even go against it, never knowing what they do for us is for the best of our benefits that they could possibly provide.
As a parent, we have that responsibility towering over your head, wanting things to go perfectly, well knowing they never can. We try to fit our children into these molds we have made sometimes. But just like how if the dough is too hard the cookie cutter might cut out some bits off it, making it imperfect, but still delicious to eat. We want to achieve perfection in parenting and expect our child to cooperate with that goal of ours, not remembering that we were once curious, clueless children too. If we have more than one kid, we set mental expectations on the second one. We deny it all the time, but deep down know it is true. No matter how hard parenting gets, we have hope on our children. Never lose faith in them.
As a student, we are constantly learning new things, in and out of the academic realm. Most times out of it. We know we have work to complete, assignments to finish, teachers to impress and goals to achieve but lack motivation sometimes. We just look for a way out when things seem too far away. That happens when we do not get support and sense the expectation of failure falling on us. That does not allow us to step forth and try again. That makes us rebellious and irrational. We want to be on top of the world, but seem to keep falling flat on our faces. We still try to keep ourselves intact for the sake of everyone around us and our future, that seems nearer now.
As a teacher, we want our students to do well. We want to have an impact in the education sector on the young minds we nurture. We know at the end of the day, the credit of success and failure goes to us. We create careers and are proud of what we do. Yet, we find ourselves in a loop, going round and round doing the same thing over and over again until it becomes a routine and do not realize how unique our job truly is and how much it actually affects the people we share our knowledge with.
As teachers, we forget we were and are students. As parents, we forget we were and are children. This movie will make you remember again. Its worth remembering. It always is.
