KAABIL
Grief can be very motivating.
This movie took a turn way to fast for me. I do not know about you, but movies like this give me such mixed feelings. I will start by discussing the acting. Now, we all know acting as a blind person is one of the most challenging roles an actor could possibly play. If not done correctly, the film could never possibly be enjoyed. I'm glad to say that Hrithik and Yami's performance was impeccable. I find it fascinating when actors push their limits in their career. To see someone evolve in their lives, whether you know them personally or not, is always a joy.
Some of the strongest feelings that can drive a person into insanity are grief, fear and anger. These emotions are the king of emotions for me, as the rest are not as overwhelming. Have you ever seen a person who is extremely happy and that led him or her to do something that does not end up well? I know I have not. My philosophy is that happiness or any other positive feelings are all just temporary, whilst the negative emotions are buried deep within a persons soul, manifesting into their minds for the long term. It is all just a matter of time when one day a nerve will be touched that should not, and lo behold, an eruption of emotions.
I do not think people quite understand the impact that our feelings have on us. If we feel sad, the entire day is spent gloomily, wandering about with nothing but hopelessness on our minds. If we are angry, the whole day is just a series of fist clenching moments that make us want to yell our souls out. If we are scared, we hide away, try our best to put on a facade for everyone, hoping no one will see right through it. Imagine what those people feel, who have to live with a certain emotion every single day of their lives. For normal people like me, the worst thing that could happen is probably something that is really important to me goes missing at the worst time, but after a while I forget about it and move on. How about those that lose their loved ones? How can they possibly move on? Simply put, they cannot.
This film also highlights what it means to be looked down upon, to be underestimated. Kaabil literally translates to capable, for it is a journey of a blind man showing how capable he really is and never to think that he is not just because of his defect. Those feelings that people who get bullied go through are almost suicidal. Some get up and push through life, but some cannot take the pressure of having to exist for others to just take advantage of them. One of the main character's, Yami's character, goes through this phase. To think that some people actually live their lives in fear of others and one day decide to end it all shows how worthless one can feel if ultimate tragedy hits and the eruption of emotions occur. Some take it well, and seek justice, but some let it all go in an instant. Both characters fit both these premises and it is fascinating to watch.
In conclusion, we have been gifted with the ability to feel so many emotions. Let's learn to manage them healthily and defend ourselves no matter what. For if we do not fight for ourselves and what we love, who will?
