SARBJIT

Biopic of Sarabjit Singh, a farmer residing at Bhikiwind, Punjab, near the Indo-Pak border, crossed the border after having a couple of drinks. However, he was mistaken to be an Indian spy and was sentenced with capital punishment.

Horrifying to watch, but that indicates a great film.

Just the thought that this is what some people experience in their lives is truly sickening. Sarbjit was way harder to watch than I expected. To make a torturous biopic look extremely real requires top notch acting, great cinematography and a bomb storyline that will bring shivers up your spine. This movie really did deliver in all those aspects. This is the kind of movie where all the acting skills and actor could possibly have needs to be flaunted. All the main characters were astounding.

Now, the elephant in the room. India and Pakistan rivalry. It will never cease to exist, that is a fact. Hundreds of years of evolution and years after independence there is still so much tension between these two countries. Humanity is non-existent in animosity. The fact that this story was actually inspired by a man named Sarbjit, who was actually wrongly accused of being a spy, and that he is not the only one locked up in the prisons of Pakistan says a lot. The things these people have to go through, despite any actual identity checks is horrific. Even the law does not obey itself in such cases. To Indians, Pakistan is full of threats and lies. This has been going on for as long as I remember. Since the separation of both countries. But to overlook humane behavior and readily accuse any Indian just because of who they are, is wrong. Not just in India Pakistan matters, but generally. Accusations need proof and facts according to the long hand of the law. If we forget that at the end of the day, we are all humans without any
indifferences, then we have failed the humankind.

Sarbjit also takes a close look at the role family plays in one's life. When something happens to us, the only people that are willing to spend the rest of their lives fighting for justice is our family, no one else. The bond between a family is too strong to be broken by arguments or silly misunderstandings. Blood is thicker than water. We were born into this world in the hand of our families. We never knew anyone but them. They bring us up, teach us the ways of the world and one day, let us go to discover ourselves. The lengths that your family will go to for your happiness and wellbeing is infinite. That is what is portrayed in this movie. Family is all we have, and if we do not fight for what is right for them and the small world we have created in this big one, then who will?

I am not going to spoil anything because this movie is a good watch. To smile, to cry, to be eternally grateful that we are in a better place than some unfortunate others.

However, justice must be served. And it will be, for the good always prevails.
